U.S. Federal Procurement of Geotechnology 2000-2002
October 2003
From the Foreword
The report provides an analysis of procurement of geotechnology products and services by the U.S. federal government in fiscal years 2000, 2001 and 2002. Here geotechnology is broadly defined to include a number of related GIS and geospatial fields, such as data conversion and digitizing, satellite and aerial imagery, environmental management and consulting, GIS consulting and application development, mapping services, and professional engineering services.
We found 117 federal agencies spent more than five billion dollars per year making purchases from 393 companies in the geotechnologies. We identify the top ten vendors in six product and service categories for the top ten agencies, providing insight into the revenue opportunities available to businesses willing to learn how to do business with the federal government.
