Kevin Corbley interviewed Tina Cary about geotechnology business opportunities with government agencies. The interview is available as a podcast (mp3, 5meg).

The US Office of Science and Technology Policy issued A Plan for a U.S. National Land Imaging Program (pdf, 6.9 meg) in August 2007. Includes the status of US remote sensing capabilities, societal benefits of moderate resolution land imaging, a white paper by the US Chamber of Commerce Space Enterprise Council on GEOSS and Landsat, results of an ASPRS survey on the future of land imaging, and more.

Status and Potential Role of State, Tribal, Regional, and Local Public Entities in the National Map Program, a report to USGS in April 2003 from PlanGraphics, Inc. and Kentucky Governor’s Office for Technology (pdf, 947K). The discussion -- of business processes and needs for geographic data -- continues to be relevant. The table of benefits to public agencies (pp. 3-13–3-14) is useful to sales staff new to the public sector.

The geography of the geospatial community is described in a series of four articles in Geospatial Solutions: Mapping the Geospatial Community, Part One, Part Two, Part Three, and Part Four. The 26,000+ subscribers of the magazine provide the data for understanding the distribution of geotechnology practitioners better than ever before.

Templates to Guide the Product Management Lifecycle Process

including specific examples of geotechnology products and services

The Product Management Lifecycle Process (PMLP) serves as the foundation for identifying and building profitable customer-focused products and services. A package of three templates has been created specifically for geotechnology products and services. The templates include instructions and examples for carrying out the various steps in an organized and logical manner; they guide the product management process and ensure all key business and technical issues are addressed. The discipline outlined in this process has value for both young firms and well-established firms and can easily be customized to fit any organization’s needs.

Custom Globes

Custom globe by Joe Roubal showing satellite orbitsAs an attention-getting display for your lobby or exhibit booth, consider what kind of custom globe will help you communicate with your prospects. Cary and Associates is proud to offer custom globes from Roubal Mapping. The 30-inch globes have a scale of 1:16.7 million. Thus one centimeter on the globe equals 167 km or 100 miles on the ground, and one inch on the globe equals 400 km or 250 miles on the ground. For booth use, a travel case and assembly instructions are also available. In addition to showing land cover types and company offices, stands can be motorized to turn the globe. Some globes also include an auxiliary arm to support an orbiting satellite; the motions of the globe and the satellite are set to demonstrate the correct number of orbits for one rotation of the Earth. Such motion makes the globes even more fascinating and educational. Contact Cary and Associates for further information and to place an order or inquire about leasing arrangements.
